Najla Altwaijry holds a DPhil in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, in addition to a master’s and bachelor’s degree with first class honours in the field of Mathematics from King Saud University. She has over 25 years’ experience in the education field and is passionate about empowering general and higher education students through science.
She began her career as a teaching assistant at the Department of Mathematics at KSU. After obtaining her DPhil degree, she became the vice chair of the Department of Mathematical Skills in the preparatory year at KSU, then the vice chair of the Department of Mathematics, and finally the vice dean of the Deanship of Graduate Studies at the university. She then worked as the vice dean of the Deanship of Admission and Registration at Dar Al Uloom University, moving on to become an advisor for the Statistical Academy at the General Authority for Statistics and is currently the general manager of the Education Centre of Excellence at the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority.
She specialises in Operator Theory, Theory of JB*-triples, Jordan Algebra Theory, and Physical Applications of JB*-triples. She has also worked as a founding member and deputy leader of the Saudi team for the IMO (International Mathematics Olympiad) at Mawhiba, a member in the arbitration committees for the Creativity Olympiad with Mawhiba since its inception, while also having gained experience from being a member of the Outstanding Students Programme at KSU. She is also a part-time consultant at the National Center for Measurement and Evaluation in Higher Education (Qiyas), and a part-time consultant at the Ministry of Education, a member of many specialized societies in mathematics such as the Saudi Association for Mathematical Sciences (SAMS), the British Mathematical Society (BMS), and the American Mathematical Society (AMS). She also serves as a member of the editorial committee for the American Journal of Applied Mathematics and a scientific reviewer for AMS. She is the recipient of Almarai Prize for Scientific Innovation in 2008 and the King Saud University Award for Scientific Excellence for the year 2019.
