Head, Monitoring, Visualization & Data Management, KAUST Reefscape Restoration Initiative
Liz Goergen PhD is the Head of Monitoring Visualizations and Database management for the KAUST Reefscape Restoration Initiative (KRRI). Her expertise is in coral reef restoration and monitoring and brings nearly two decades of global field experience to the team, working in the US, Mexico, Caribbean, and the Arabian Gulf. Prior to joining KRRI, Dr. Goergen’s work led to the development of a Monitoring Guide for Coral Reef Restoration, the first-time universal monitoring metrics were defined for coral reef restoration. Further, her research on coral outplant design and techniques and experience in the field has influenced how restoration programs approach planning and the writing of a guide focused on efficiency and scale in coral reef restoration. She has been an integral part of the Coral Restoration Consortium since its inception, serving as both a chair and core group member. Dr. Goergen has been leading this team at KAUST for two years and looks forward to pushing the boundaries of how we execute and monitor coral reef restoration at meaningful scales.
