Prof. Dana Alsulaiman

Biography

Dana Alsulaiman is an Assistant Professor of Material Science and Bioengineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the Principal Investigator of the BioMAD Lab, which focuses on developing advanced biomaterials and next-generation technologies for minimally-invasive disease diagnosis, monitoring, and personalized therapy. Her research includes advancements in encoded hydrogel microparticles, stimuli-responsive microneedles, and point-of-care optical and electrochemical biosensors. 

Prof Alsulaiman completed her undergraduate and Masters degrees in Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London in 2015 and was then granted the prestigious President’s PhD Scholarship to support her doctoral studies. In 2019, she moved to the USA to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Prof Patrick Doyle at MIT, where she focused on developments in the fields of advanced encoded biosensors and Precision Medicine. Throughout her academic career, Prof Alsulaiman has received many prestigious international awards including the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Healthcare Technologies Award (2019), the MIT Technology Review’s Innovator’s Under 35 Award (2021), and most recently the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Regional Young Talent Award (2023). 

Outside of academia, Prof Alsulaiman strives to support and promote innovation and scientific progress in Saudi Arabia and beyond through her involvement in outreach programs, panel discussions, and renowned youth forums.
